The News BAHAWALPUR: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quaid, Mian Nawaz Sharif, on Friday expressed concern over occupation of a huge chunk of land in Cholistan by the Army.
In a briefing with the commissioner Bahawalpur and officers of Irrigation, Forest and other departments regarding development schemes in Cholistan, Nawaz said only the local population has the right to get Cholistan’s land. He was extremely concerned that some non-local influentials had occupied a huge chunk of the land without any allotment.
The PML-N Quaid said despite provision of huge funds, the Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) failed to serve the local population. He said the CDA was established in 1970s and funds of millions of rupees were provided to it but it miserably failed to do anything for the local population.
Nawaz asked the Irrigation officials to take steps to overcome water shortage in the area.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the Forest Department. He asked the commissioner Bahawalpur to improve the performance of government departments in the area, saying no compromise would be made over the standard of the ongoing development schemes.Nawaz Sharif, on the occasion, launched a tree-plantation campaign by planting a sapling at a rest house in Lal Sahanra.
