Woman dies of organ failure after breast enlargement operation

Gulf News - Dubai Public Prosecution charged the doctor with causing the accidental death of the 24-year-old Belarusian woman after injecting her with a gelatin substance in the muscles and tissues of her breast.

Dubai: A doctor and a cosmetic specialist have been charged with accidentally causing the death of a Belarusian woman after reportedly giving her a wrong injection for breast enlargement in a private clinic.

The French doctor and the Lebanese cosmetic specialist have refuted what they described as the prosecutor's "baseless and groundless accusation" when they defended themselves before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court.

Bacteria in the blood

According to the charge sheet, the Frenchman has also been accused of practising medicine without obtaining a licence from the health authorities.

Prosecution records showed that the kidneys and liver of the woman failed due to a bacterial contamination in her blood, resulting in her death.

The cosmetic specialist was charged with aiding and abetting the doctor by allowing him to use her clinic and injecting the deceased with what the prosecutors described as a "wrong injection".

When the defendants appeared before Presiding Judge Ebrahim Khalil, they pleaded not guilty and firmly rejected the charges.

The court was adjourned until later this month to hear a witness.

Treatment

During public prosecution questioning, the cosmetic specialist claimed that she was not in the check-up room when the doctor was examining the victim. She said the Belarusian woman told her of pain in the breast and that she advised a medical check-up. The Lebanese also told the prosecutors that the Belarusian did not tell her that she wanted plastic surgery and she spent only five minutes in the check-up room.

Records show that two days after visiting the clinic, the Belarusian suffered complications and was admitted to two private hospitals, where she underwent treatment before her death.
