Pakistan Observer - Peshawar—A suicide explosion near a security check post bordering Peshawar and Khyber Agency Thursday afternoon left at least five people dead and over a dozen others seriously injured.
Those killed included a kid while medics at the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar feared the death toll would go higher as the condition of many injured was precarious.
Reports reaching here said a suicide bomber exploded himself near Bara Qadeem check-post when intercepted by the security personnel. The check post was jointly manned by Frontier Constabulary (FC) and the Police force.
The officials said the bomber when reached near Bara Qadeem check-post, a border area of Peshawar, detonated his explosive vest, killing five persons and injuring 12 others.
A number of children playing close to the site of the blast also came under the attack. Some reports say a convoy of the security forces was the target of the suicide bomber who missed the target.
The injured were rushed to local hospitals for treatment. Police and law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Police blocked Bara-Peshawar road for traffic and started investigation.
Critically injured were later rushed to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar for treatment where the condition of many victims was stated to be critical.
Governor NWFP Awais Ahmad Ghani and the Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti have strongly condemned the suicide blast and expressed sympathies over the loss of human loss. They said, the elements involved in terrorists activities are in fact the enemies of the country, who are already on the run.
Expressing heartfelt sympathies with members of the bereaved families, the Governor and the CM of NWFP assured them that the actions against extremists and miscreants would continue till the last militant was eliminated.
