صوبے کے نئے نام خیبر پختونخواہ پر چترال میں ملا جلا ردعمل

The News - CHITRAL: Local leaders affiliated with various political parties expressed mixed reaction on the renaming of the province as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

Talking to The News, former district nazim Maghfirat Shah argued the decision would divide various ethnic groups living in the province. He said that almost all the political parties had reservation about the decision of changing the name of the province. “We will take up the issue with the provincial government in the coming days,” he added.

A number of activists of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) opposed the proposed amendment in the constitution and renaming the NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. They said changing the name would not change the plight of the people in the province.

Meanwhile, the general secretary of Chitral Nationalist Movement, Hayatullah Garzi, said that giving identity to the residents of the province was a longstanding demand of the people. He congratulated the constitutional reforms committee and President Asif Ali Zardari for taking the bold decision of renaming the province as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. ANP and PPP leaders in Chitral supported the move to rename the province as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
