US consents to cooperate with NWFP govt for installation of power projects

PESHAWAR (Online): US has shown willingness to cooperate with Pakhtoonkhawa government for making investment in the power projects for generating 48000 megawatt electricity in several districts including Mansehra, Kohistan and Chitral.

A team of investor’s company will visit these areas next week to review the prospects for launching these projects.
Provincial government had sent its proposals to US authorities related to installation of hydro power plants in different areas of Malakand and Hazara division. The team has temporarily suspended its visit to Peshawar due to incident, which had taken place in US consulate in Peshawar.

Sources told US ambassador in Islamabad and US president special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan had held vital meetings with key leaders of ANP during their visit to Islamabad and Swat and they were given special briefing in this regard.

Sources told that several areas in Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Malakand Division and Hazara division had potential to generate 48000 megawatt electricity and US authorities would cooperate with government in completion of hydropower projects. The investors company will control the management affairs of the projects. The provincial government would have also its shares in these projects. These projects would create job opportunities for over 150000 persons.
