32 Hunza villages endangered; 20 relief camps set up بتیس دیہات کو خطرہ، 20 امدادی کیمپ لگائے گئے ہیں

ISLAMABAD, May 21 (APP) - Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Manzoor Wattoo Friday said relief camps were established in 20 different villages of Hunza to meet any untoward situation in the face of lake-burst at Atabad. Addressing a joint press conference with Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, he said National Engineering Service of Pakistan (NESPAK) had conducted a study which pointed out atleast 32 villages that could be affected. “Every possible arrangements have been made to mitigate sufferings of the people,” he said.
Wattoo said the government under the leadership of President and Prime Minister had promptly responded to the situation. “I’ve visited camps and met with the people, who told me the government had done an unprecedented job,” he said.

He belied reports that Government had delayed action in Hunza, saying relief efforts got underway exactly the day the disaster took place.

Wattoo commended the engineers of Pak Army who had done a landmark job by establishing spill-way of the lake.

Referring to the foreign experts who have visited the site, the minister said they all were of the view that building the spill-way was an impossible task which had been made possible.
