Police: Pakistani governor killed in gun attack

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Police say the governor of Pakistan's powerful Punjab province has been killed by his own guard in a gun attack in the Pakistani capital.

Police official Mohammad Iftikhar says Salman Taseer was gunned down by one of his elite security force protectors. Five other people were wounded as other security personnel responded to the attack Tuesday in Islamabad.
Taseer is a high-profile member of the ruling party who has recently spoken out against the country's blasphemy law.

Police official Mohammad Iqbal says Salman Taseer was taken to the hospital after the attack Tuesday.
