Tourists enjoy Chitral cultural event

CHITRAL: Tourists including foreigners and people from every nook and corner of Chitral district on Monday enjoyed to the full a daylong cultural event-cum-exhibition held at Dolomoch locality near Chitral Town.

The Revival of Indigenous Cultural Heritage (Rich) of Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) had organised the event in collaboration with Chitral Association for Mountain Areas Tourism (CAMAT) and others.


The event aimed at promoting the indigenous culture and encouraging the local craftsmen, and value their talent and work.

Besides local visitors, international tourists also visited the event and took keen interest in items displayed at the mela. They appreciated the stalls set up at the event highlighting the locally produced and manufactured goods, handicrafts and artifacts.

The handicraft stalls, Chitrali embroidery, food joints from Kalash valley, Lotkoh area, northern Chitral and Wakhi handicrafts from Wakhan received applauses for its uniqueness and beauty. Besides, Chitrali Patti, Mogh brand and Shobinak brand was also part of the event.

Talking to reporters, the TCKP’s Rich project head Arshad Hussain said that holding of the exhibition was aimed at highlighting, promoting and encouraging the local talent and also to help the artistes and artisans introduce on national and international level in order to bring them into the economic mainstream.

The TCKP is making all out efforts to organise the Shandur Festival in a befitting manner. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on behalf of TCKP and the people of the province has invited the newly wed royal couple Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton to watch the final of the annual Shandur Polo tournament at the world’ highest polo ground in Chitral.
