Probe sought into Asfandyar’s fake son row

PESHAWAR: Criticising the Chitral police, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader and former Member National Assembly Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali on Tuesday demanded an inquiry into providing VIP protocol to a group of swindlers.

In a statement, he came down hard on the district police officer (DPO) Chitral and asked the police high-ups to take him to task.“Extending protocol to swindlers and spending government resources on them is sheer negligence on the part of the Chitral DPO,” Maulana Chitrali said.

He said the arrested swindlers should be handed down exemplary punishment and the DPO be included in the inquiry for being negligent in his duty.It may be recalled that one Naushad Ali, hailing from Landikotal tehsil in Khyber Agency, while posing as Aimal Khan, son of Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, told the Chitral police officials by phone to facilitate his friends visiting the scenic valley.

The police reportedly extended them protocol and sent a vehicle to pick them up at the Lowari Tunnel. However, the swindlers including Naushad Ali, Samin Jan, Noorullah, Mukhtar, Agha Jan and Wazir Ali Shah, were arrested after the police grew suspicious of their activities.
