Hoti inaugurates Lawi hydro, Chitral power project


CHITRAL: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haider Khan Hoti visited Drosh Chitral some 45 KM from here on Saturday and inaugurated 69 Megawatt Lawi hydro project.
Addressing on the occasion, he said that Chitral has huge potential of hydro power and the government will launch 9 hydro projects in the area to overcome energy crises.

He said that Rs240 million have been allocated for completion of Abdul Wali Khan Bypass road which will be completed by yearend. He also announced up-gradation of high school Arandu to higher secondary school.
It is worth to mention here that Lawari Hydro power project will be completed with a cost of Rs12.36billion and after completing the remaining 8 projects Chitral will be able to generate 1200megawatts electricity.

About the project: The project area is located on the right bank of Shishi River, which is a left tributary of Chitral River and is 350 km from Islamabad. The project lies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. (Source WAPDA)

PRESENT STATUS  
·        The Feasibility Study of Lawi HPP was completed and cleared by WAPDA Standing Review committee (SRC)
.       WAPDA SRC meeting held on 27.09.2009 approved the PC-I for submission to Ministry of Water and Power for ECNEC approval. Comments from Ministry of Water & Power replied. Ministry of Water & Power submitted PC-I for ECNEC approval.
·        A meeting held in Ministry of Water and Power dated 04.06.2010 wherein it was decided that project would be developed on public private partnership mode jointly by WAPDA and Infrastructure Project Development Facility (IPDF) from Ministry of Finance Gop.
.        A Presentation was made to Governor KPK and Chief Minister KPK on projects being handled by WAPDA in the Province of KPK Development of Lawi on PPP modes was discussed in length.
.        Government of KPK decided to take-up Lawi HPP from their own resource and asked WAPDA to provide feasibility study free of cost. Soft copy of feasibility study and PC-I send to Government of KPK after approval of Chairman WAPDA.
.        Managing Director SHYDO, Government of Khyber Pkhtunkhwa has informed that PC_I has been submitted for the approval of CDWP by SHYDO and requested for withdrawn of PC_I submitted by WAPDA.
.        Wapda has requested Ministry of Water and Power to withdraw already submitted PC-I from Planning commission of Pakistan.
