Demonstration seeks restoration of district status of Upper Chitral

RECORDER REPORT
Expressing grave concern over delaying tactics by the provincial government in granting to Upper Chitral as district status, dozens of activists of Tanzeem Tahafuz-e-Chitral staged a protest demonstration on main Sher Shah Suri Road on Wednesday. They demanded of the government to restore the district status of Upper Chitral.

The protesters led by Tanzeem Central Chairman Sadiq Amin, Shakeeruddin, Hafiz Faisal Shah and along with scores of residents of the Chitral. The demonstrators were holding placards and banners inscribed slogans against the government for delaying tactics to give district status to Upper Chitral.

Sadiq Amin, while talking to reporters on the occasion, said the government had failed to give district status to Upper Chitral, which was created a sense of deprivation among local people. He said areas had been upgraded at district level by the provincial government for its vested political interest in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but it was using delaying tactics for division of Chitral in two districts. He demanded of the provincial government to restore the district status of Upper Chitral, otherwise they would compel to launch an agitation campaign against it.
