Federal govt yet to approve funds for Chitral road

CHITRAL: Member Provincial Assembly Ghulam Muhammad on Thursday said the revised estimated cost of the Booni-Shandur Road had been sent to the Planning and Development Division Islamabad and work on the project would be launched after the approval of funds.

“Initially, Rs490million were approved for the project. However, after the second survey, Rs1.4 billion was fixed as the estimated cost of the 73 kilometres long road project,” he said. He added that he had been pursuing the project and there was no truth in reports of embezzlement of funds.

He said he met the chief minister to request him to raise the issue with the quarters concerned as the road was a federal government-funded project. The MPA added that on the directives of the chief minister the revised estimate of the project had been sent to the Planning and Development Division.

“We are following it and I had also raised the issue with the Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir during his visit to Chitral two months back,” he maintained.Meanwhile, the residents of Chitral staged protest outside the Al-Markaz Islami in Peshawar to demand resumption of work on the Booni-Shandur Road.

“Its astonishing that work could not be launched on the project which was approved by the previous government,” former MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali told the protesters. He demanded the government to probe the issue and launch work on the project.
