Bomb blast kills four rangers’ personnel in Karachi

KARACHI, (SANA): At least four rangers’ personnel were killed and seven others including five rangers’ personnel were wounded when unknown miscreants hurled a hand grenade inside rangers’ truck here on Wednesday.

According to police, the attack took place at the main gate of rangers’ headquarters in Korangi No 5.

Law enforcement agencies reached the scene and cordoned off the area. Bomb disposal squad was called in to clear the area.

DIG Tahir Naveed confirmed the blast, saying that rangers personnel were among those injured in the explosion. They were shifted to Jinnah Hospital. Dr Seemi Jamal said that four rangers men succumbed to their wounds at the hospital. Tension gripped the locality after the blast.

According to a spokesperson of rangers, hand grenade was thrown at the truck when security personnel were returning from duty.

Meanwhile banned Tehreeke-eTaliban Pakistan Spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan has claimed responsibility, saying they targeted the Rangers for working against them.

According to Rangers’ sources, the bomb exploded close to a Rangers’ vehicle near the Bhittai Rangers Headquarters located in Korangi No. 5 area.

Exchange of fire between the attackers and rangers personnel was also reported, however, it was not confirmed by the authorities.

Rescue and emergency response teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to hospitals. The spokesman identified the deceased as Irfan, Amanat, Majid and Saifullah.

The blast spread fear among the locals residents as shops and small businesses were reportedly shut after the incident.

Police and security agencies have cordoned off the site and the media is prohibited to enter the area. Taking notice of the incident, Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (r) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso and Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan have ordered a quick probe report of the blast.

The caretaker PM, in a statement, said that such cowardly acts would not deter the resolve of the law enforcement agencies of wiping out the terrorism from the society.
