AKU accorded highest rank in discipline of medicine by HEC

KARACHI, July 19 (APP)- Aga Khan University has been accorded the highest rank in the discipline of medicine by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. According to details available here on Friday this ranking was based on a criteria that relied on feedback from universities and international rankings models. Aga Khan University -Karachi was followed by University of Health Sciences - Lahore, DOW University of Health Sciences-Karachi, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences -Jamshoro and Khyber Medical University-Peshawar.

The HEC rankings, that also included Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) as the highest-ranked university in the category of Business Education and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science (PIEAS) Engineering Technology category, were based on the implementation status of quality assurance, teaching quality and research produced at the universities in the year 2011-12.

For the general universities category, three sub-categories were made according to the enrollment size of universities.

Universities with a student body strength of over 7,000 were put in the large sub-category, universities which had 3,000 to 7,000 students were put in the medium sub-category, while universities which had less than 3000 students were categorized as small.

National University of Sciences Technology (NUST), Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and University of Faisalabad were ranked highest in the large, medium and small general universities category respectively.

Institute of Business Administration (IBA - Karachi) closely followed LUMS in the Business Education category. Sukkur Institute of Business Administration, SZABIST-Karachi and Institute of Management Science - Peshawar were also in the list respectively.

University of Agriculture - Faisalabad was declared best in the agriculture and veterinary sciences. 

It was followed by Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University-Rawalpindi, University of Veterinary Animal Sciences-Lahore, The University of Agriculture-Peshawar and Sindh Agriculture University - Tandojam.

Among the Engineering and Technology category Pakistan Institute of Engineering Applied Sciences (PIEAS) - Islamabad, UET- Lahore. GIKI - Topi and Mehran University of Engineering Technology - Jamshoro and Institute of Space Technology - Islamabad were accorded top rankings.
