Woman wooed via SMS, raped, thrown off car by PTI (Press Trust Of India)

BERHAMPUR (ODISHA): A man who promised to marry a woman through text messages and phone calls allegedly raped her thrice when he met her and then threw her out of a car in Odisha's Kandhamal district. 

Sushant Kumar Swain from Bhejiput in adjoiningGanjam district sent SMSs and made phone callsto the woman from Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district, promising to marry her, sub-divisional police officer of Udayagiri, S Bariha, said on Sunday. 

Swain asked the woman to come to Bhubaneswar on July 9, where he allegedly raped her thrice, Bariha said. Swain then took her in a car ostensibly to Bhanjanagar, but instead drove towards Phulbani. 

The accused and two of his accomplices then pushed the woman out of the car at Kalinga Ghati, Bariha said. 

The woman was rescued by road construction workers and admitted to a hospital at Udayagiri where she was medically examined, he said. Swain and the two accomplices were arrested later on Sunday, the SDPO said.
