Jashn-e-Chitral Festival concludes

The Jashn-e-Chitral Sports Festival concluded on Thursday which was sponsored by the KPK Tourism Corporation with the title ‘Dare to achieve your Desired Destination’.

The main purpose of holding the event was to promote sports at district level. Chitral deputy administration and scouts managed the event attended by the people from different walks of life.

The event included polo matches, football, cricket, volleyball, tug of war, buz kashi, buddi dik, horse race, mountain race, para gliding, arrow throwing, stone throwing, ponkey polo, cultural show, chess, marathon race, local wresting and other games. The polo match was played between Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral teams which performed the tunes of flute and traditional polo band.

The people were unhappy because for the first time, Shandur Polo Festival was cancelled due to the natural calamity which disrupted roads between Chitral and Gilgit due to which the event had to be postponed and later, due to the bad weather it was cancelled.

Jash-e-Chitral gave them the opportunity to witness the teams of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan battling each other. At the end, the match won by Chitral team by 12-1. TCKP managing director Tarik Jamil said that due to the postponement of Shandur Polo Festival, the event would be held at Chitral. This is a very unique event which included all the major sports that are played in Pakistan, he said. “Holding of Jashn-e-Chitral is a service of tourism promotional activities, initiated by TCKP and Chitral district administration at the behest of the provincial government for the promotion of tourism in the province,” he said adding that indigenous games like tug of war, stone throwing, pool throwing and Buz Kashi are becoming very rare and that's why it was decided to revive and promote them.

MNAs Sheryar Afridi and Shezada Iftikharuddin were chief guests at the ceremony. They distributed prizes among the participants and appreciated the event immensely. They suggested that such events should be held to promote harmony and level of competition among the players. The Nation
