Punjab's Minister for Transport, Bilal Akbar Khan, announced the Punjab Assembly's ambitious plan to launch 680 electric buses across the province at a cost of Rs 40 billion. This initiative, aimed at transforming public transportation into a more eco-friendly and sustainable system, underscores the Punjab government's commitment to environmental responsibility and public welfare. Of the 680 buses, 300 will serve Lahore, 100 will be deployed in Multan, 110 in Faisalabad, and 42 in Bahawalpur.
A unique feature of the new transport plan includes the introduction of "Pink Buses" tailored exclusively for women. These buses will operate on 16 designated routes in Lahore, ensuring safer and more convenient travel for female commuters. This dual approach not only boosts the province's green transport efforts but also emphasizes enhancing mobility and security for women, aligning with the government's broader goals for inclusive and sustainable urban development.
