One Chitrali five others held for planning attack on five-star hotel, US nationals

Daily Times - LAHORE: Police on Monday arrested six suspected terrorists from GT Road, Shahdara, including a would-be suicide bomber, who were allegedly plotting to attack a five-star hotel and kill US nationals. Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Zulfiqar Hameed said the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan-linked terrorists were planning to target foreigners living at a well-known hotel in the city, adding that police recovered detonators, suicide jackets, 26 grenades, four kilogrammes of hashish and explosive material from their possession. Waris Bharwana, a police official who
was involved in the arrests, said police had set up a checkpoint on the main highway from Peshawar and intercepted a small car outside the city last week, AFP reported. “There were four people in the car, including a would-be suicide bomber,” he said. The men were taken into custody and, in the course of interrogations, confessed to planning attacks on US nationals living at a hotel in the city. The men were identified as Abdul Baseer alias Qari Waqar from Khyber Agency, Mohiuddin alias Saifullah from Chitral, Abdur Rehman Ghani from Dir, Skhai Shah and Tehsil Khan, both from Mohmand Agency and Dilawar Saeed from Mardan. The US embassy in Islamabad said it had no immediate information about an alleged plot targeting Americans in Lahore. staff report/afp
