The News - CHITRAL: The traders’ union here Thursday called off weeklong shutter down after MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin assured them of restoration of power supply to the district. Addressing the protesting traders, the MNA said that streetlights would be installed in main bazaars and business centers in the city through a separate power supply line. He said that several power-generating projects were in progress in the district and there would be no scarcity of power in the area in the near future.
The business community had been observing shutter down by setting up a protest camp at the old PIA Chowk to protest the failure of Wapda authorities to restore electricity to the district. Despite the announcement to call off their shutter down protest, the traders declared to continue token strike until electricity was fully restored in the district. The power supply to the area was disrupted due to heavy snow and cold weather last week. However, Shahzada Mohiuddin assured the union members that the rooted out electricity poles would be repaired in the next few days and power supply would be restored. The MNA said that four generators were provided to the Chitral Power House to overcome loadshedding in the area. The Wapda authorities had failed to carry out repair work on the main transmission line at the Lowari Top owing to heavy snow.
