Chairman NDMA briefs Kaira on artificial lake in Hunza


GILGIT, Mar 16 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira, who is also the Governor Gilgit-Baltistan was briefed about the situation in Hunza where an artificial lake has been created on Hunza river following massive land slide in January.

Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Farooq Ahmed briefed him about the current situation and losses in the incident,challenges being faced and NDMA response etc.

The governor GB was told that the lake had spread to 11.5 Kms and its water level was rising by in 1.1 feet every day.The Chairman NDMA said 11.80 cusec seepage of water is recorded and maximum height of the lake is 219.5 feet.
The Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad also threw light on rehabilitation plan.
