Former Additional DG Ahmed Riaz Sheikh has been arrested today on Supreme Court’s orders, becoming the first person to be held after annulment of NRO.
The SC also restored the 5-year sentence given to Riaz besides the fine of Rs200million. The apex court also ordered to recover the money embezzled by him.Riaz was restored in 2008 after the NRO implementation.
It merits to mention that Riaz Sheikh was promoted with certain fringe benefits as Additional DG economic crime wing despite the annulment of NRO by the Supreme Court.
He was promoted in grade-22 this year. In 2002, NAB handed him 14-year sentence and suspension from the job, while the LHC lessened the sentence to 5 years.
