The News - PESHAWAR: Traders staged a protest outside the Press Club here on Monday, demanding of the government to ban night travel to Chitral for avoiding mishaps.
Led by Sadiq Ameen and Haji Habibullah, the protesters chanted slogans and urged the government to ban the illegal bus terminal for Chitral in Peshawar. About 14 people, including women and children, were killed when a passenger coach on its way to Chitral fell in a ravine about three kilometres from Dir on Thursday night.
The demonstrators held the Peshawar administration responsible for the casualties and objected to its permission to establish an illegal bus terminal and allowing travel at night. They said the road journey to Chitral from Peshawar took about 12 hours, passing through difficult mountainous terrain and it was risky to drive during the night. They accused the vehicle owners of compelling passengers to undertake the journey at night. The protesters claimed that the recent road accident on way to Chitral took place because of the drowsiness of driver.
