Chitralis protest halt of work on Lowari Tunnel

PESHAWAR (Via The News): People belonging to Chitral staged protest here Friday to press the government for ensuring opening of Lowari Tunnel round-the-clock and construction of bypass and link roads in the district.

The protest was held under the banner of the Tanzim Tahuffuz-e-Huqooq-e-Chitral. Former MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Jamaat-e-Islami Chitral chapter leader Muhammad Ayub, former nazim Shamsher Khan, Sajjad Ahmad Khan of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and Qari Ahmad Saeed led the protest.

The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands. They raised slogans against the federal and provincial governments and the elected representatives from the area for giving a cold-shoulder response to the problems faced by Chitralis and keeping silent over the stoppage of work on Lowari Tunnel. They said the frequent power outages had made life miserable for the people of Chitral. At the onset of the winter, they said, the problems of the people of the district multiply manifold.

The protesters deplored that no serious step had been taken by the authorities for ending the miseries of the people of Chitral, the biggest district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa making 20 per cent of the total area of the province.
