ISLAMABAD (Online): Federal Minister for Communications Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil has said that despite financial constraints, the government is committed to complete Luwari Road Tunnel within three years.
While talking to a delegation led by Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Khyber Pakhtunkhwah Muhammad Salim Khan, whereas other members of the delegation were President PPP Chitral, Zainulabideen, General Secretary Muhammad Hakeem Advocate, Deputy General Secretary Muhammd Nawab Advocate and Secretary Information People’s Youth Organization Malakand Division Iqbal Hayat. On this occasion, the GM Luwari Road Tunnel Abdulsamad Khan gave a detailed briefing to the delegation on the project.
The Federal Minister told the delegation that it is also his desire that the tunnel is completed as early as possible and despite financial constraints, funds are being provided for this project. In addition to this, the Minister also constituted a committee under Joint Secretary Communications Mathar Niaz Rana, which gets an updated report on weekly basis from the consultants, contractors and concerned officials about the pace of work on the tunnel so that the construction work can be reviewed periodically.
The Federal Minister said that he has made it clear to the contractors that the tunnel should be completed in accordance with international standards and no compromise will be made on the pace and quality of work on the tunnel. The delegation also apprised the Federal Minster of the demands and reservations of the people of Chitral in this regard and also thanked the Federal Minister for taking personal interest in the construction of Gilgit-Chitral-Shindoor Road and Luwari Tunnel.
The delegation said that the Chitral is a PPP stronghold and this fact was realized by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto many years ago, therefore, it is important that the present government of PPP completes the project. Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil said that Luwari Tunnel is a project of great importance which will not only boost, trade, tourism, industry and agriculture of the area but will also strengthen Pakistan economically.
