Sonoghar glacier affectees get compensation

CHITRAL (The News) : Compensation cheques were distributed on Sunday among the victims of Sonoghar glacier affectees at a function in Booni, the headquarters of Mastuj subdivision.



District Development Advisory Committee’s Chairman Ghulam Mohammad, District Coordination Officer Rehmatullah Wazir and other officials of the administration attended the function.

Owners of 1,100 completely damaged and 1,600 partially damaged houses were given Rs25,000 as compensation. The houses were damaged after a glacier burst and the floodwater submerged Sonoghar village in 2007.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Ghulam Mohammad thanked the Khyber Pakhtun-khwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti for providing relief to the affected people. He said the chief minister had approved Rs80 million for the construction of roads in Yarkhun, Khot, Rech and Terich areas.
