The Aga Khan Development Network has confirmed it will build a cultural and education centre at King’s Cross, central London.
The charity has agreed a deal to buy a 4.5ha site at King’s Cross Central, which is being developed by Argent, according to a report in the Financial Times.
A statement from Aga Khan said: “The agreements provide for the Aga Khan Development Network and King’s Cross Central to work closely together in the design and construction of each building, which will include educational, office, cultural, retail and residential uses.
“This will initially lead to the relocation of the existing activities of the Aga Khan University, the Institute of Ismaili Studies and the Aga Khan Foundation from their leased premises on nearby Euston Road and the relocation of related student accommodation.”
According to the report, the scheme will not feature a mosque, while future phases will include homes, offices and additional cultural space for concerts and exhibitions.
No architects have been appointed to the project.
