College closes door of education on deserving students - by Munir Hussain

Chitral, ZAIT, Aug 20, 2011: Admissions in degree classes have started this month and a large number of students from far-off areas of Mastuj are reaching Govt Degree College for Women in Booni with the hope of getting admissions there.

The college administration had announced that all admissions would be given purely on merit. Those with the required marks were put in the waiting list. But at the end, it transpired that preference in admissions was given to those students who were close to the administration. Some of the neglected students said they had obtained higher marks than those who were given admissions.

Besides, the college staff kicked out one of the students when she insisted that she deserved the right to get admission on merit. People of the area said all students should be treated equally by the college staff, adding, however, capable students belonging to poor families were deprived of education by the college administration due to lack of finance.

It is unfortunate that an educational institution resorts to open favoritism in giving admissions. The residents said the college administration should not think that the institution is only for the students belonging to some particular area. Every female student of Mastuj subdivision has the right to get admission here.

The residents said if there are no facilities for more students, extra classes should be arranged for them. Most of the people in the area are poor and they cannot send their daughters to other cities or admit them in private colleges. Therefore, the college administration and the authorities concerned should look into the matter and accommodate all the students instead of closind the door of education on them and promoting favoritism. Despite repeated attempts, the college administration could not be contacted for comments on the allegations.
