CHITRAL: Unidentified persons early Sunday torched a wooden bridge over Chitral River near Morie village, sited 35 kilometers away from here, local sources said. The sources said the bridge used by heavy and light traffic was torched by unknown persons at night. There were conflicting reports about torching of the bridge.
The sources said that a public rally of the outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), now known as Azimat Council, was scheduled to be held in Preit village on Sunday and its local chief Maulana Mujeebur Rehman Farooqi was reaching there to address it. However, the sources said, another group of the SSP was against the holding of the rally at Priet village. They added that the dissents in SSP might have burnt the bridge in a bid to prevent Maulana Farooqi from holding the rally. It may be mentioned that the local administration had already imposed a ban on the entry of Maulana Farooqi to Chitral after he delivered a controvers

Morie and Priet villages are located opposite each other on both sides of the banks of the river and residents of the villages also used the bridge while crossing it. The villagers are now facing problems due to the burning of the bridge. Meanwhile, five-year old Khalid was killed by unidentified persons three days ago in Morie village sending a wave of anger among the people.
