CHITRAL: As only eight days left in elections 2013, the candidates of Pakistan Muslim League-N, Pakistan Tahrik-e-Insaf, Jamaat-e- Islami and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) have expedited their election campaign to win the lone constituency of NA-32 Chitral.
Following the disqualification of Chief of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Gen. (R) Pervez Musharraf, now 11 candidates are in run for this important constituency and all the political parties have fielded potential stalwarts to conquer it on May 11.
Political observers said the real electoral battle would be between Pakistan Tahrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Abdul Latif Afridi, former MNA and JI candidate, Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Muhammad Yunis of PML-N and Hakeem Khan of PPPP.
The candidates have expedited door to door campaign besides addressing public/corner meetings in different areas of the constituency, vowing to end long deprivation of people of Chitral with basic focus on resolution of peoples' genuine problems.
The people of Chitral need employments and better education. PTI after coming into power will provide jobs to youth besides providing quality education and health services to residents, Abdul Latif Khan, PTI candidate told APP here on Wednesday.
He said PTI if voted to power will focus on development and socio economic uplift to end deprivation of people of Chitral, saying Chitral has huge potential to generate inexpensive electricity for people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and his party will construct small and medium size powerhouses and dams to fully tap this rich potential.
He said our country was confronted with menace of load-shedding that has affected the overall economic, agriculture and industrialization growth and vowed to initiate works on war footing on several small and medium range powerhouse in Chitral to provide inexpensive electricity for these sectors.
Construction of schools, colleges and a university in Chitral is also in the agenda of PTI, saying, basic health units and quality hospital would also be constructed in Chitral to provide quality treatment to ailing humanity.
He said people suffered a lot of problems in case of serious ailment and have to visit Peshawar and Islamabad for treatment, saying the construction of quality hospital in Chitral will not only save the time of patients but also provide spot treatment to them.
Abdul Akbar Chitrali, a candidate of JI told public meeting in Chitral City that victory is the destiny of JI and his party would provide all basic amenities of life to people at their doorstep.
He said establishment of durable law and order in KP would be the top priority and efforts would be made to ensure opening of Lawari Tunnel around the clock for facilitation of masses. He said focus would be made on alleviation of poverty, unemployment, promotion and speedy justice to litigants.
PPP candidate, Hakeem Khan claimed that PPP will again come into power and will win this seat easily this time, he said relief would be provided to people of Chitral in PIA tickets and assistance of Benazir Income Support Programme would be doubled for people.
He said all the ongoing projects would be completed in Chitral and a network of education and health institutes would be established. Lawari Tunnel project was initiated by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and PPP would complete the remaining work on it, he added.
PML-N candidate Younis Khan told public meeting at Chitral City that Chitral is stronghold of his party and people are looking towards it for change.
He claimed that PML-N was the only party with experienced team to solve country's inherited problems besides addressing menace of loadshedding.
NA-32 comprises of Upper and Lower Chitral containing PK-89 and PK-90 constituencies of KP Assembly. The constituency has both on rural and urban areas with prominent tehsils as Torko, Morko, Mastuj, Lotko, Darosh and Chitral City where literacy rate is about 40 percent.
In last election, Shahzada Mehuddin Khan was elected from here on PML-Q ticket by obtaining 33,278 votes against 31,102 votes secured by independent candidate Sardar Muhammad Khan.
The chances of all candidates are equal and any party with good programmes for people welfare would easily go through.
