Authorities said that soldiers and police had opened fire in self defence. They also said that the protesters had been trying to get into a store of arms and ammunition. The protest had broken out after locals said Indian security forces had gone into an Islamic school, beaten students and desecrated the #Koran. The Indian Interior Ministry has called for an investigation into what happened. Kashmir is divided between India and #Pakistan , both of which claim all the territory.
