Activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from district Chitral staged a protest demonstration outside here Press club, demanding the government to keep open Lowari Tunnel for consecutive 48 hours. The protest was headed by PTI district chitral president Abdul Latif and Upper Chitral president Rahmat Ghazi along with dozens of workers. The protesters were holding placards and banner, demanding the government and authorities concerned to mend miseries of Chitrali people by keeping open Lowari Tunnel for consecutive 48 hours.
"Chitrali residents especially ailing people were being confronting immense difficulties in the extremely cold weather, due to closure of Lowari tunnel, but the authorities concerned of National Highways Authority (NHA) were stick to their stance, Mr Latif said while talking to media persons on the occasion. Sensing the gravity of situations, he said that the incumbent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government did issued a notification in this connection to keep the tunnel open on daily basis. He also said that the provincial government had also decided to pay Rs three lakh daily as compensation.
The PTI leaders also criticised the PML-N led federal government for turning deaf ears towards the miseries of the inhabitants of Chitral. The protesting activist asked the government to take notice of the ignorance of authorities concerned and reduce the hardships of locals, otherwise threatened to launch a series of protest demonstrations and set-up a hunger strike camp in front of parliament house.
