Official says ailing kids not brought to BHUs in Chitral

#CHITRAL: A representative of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Primary Healthcare (KPH) Friday said that 14 children died in the remote Khot village due to various illnesses and none of them were brought to the Basic Health Units (BHUs) for treatment.

Talking to reporters on Friday, District Support Manager of KPH Col (R) Dr Fazl Rahim said the monthly report compiled by the Lady Health Workers had stated that total deaths were 14 and that none of the victim had been brought to the BHU.

“The total number of victims mentioned in the media reports as 18 was not correct and also pneumonia was not the cause of their deaths,” he added. “They had neither been brought to the BHUs nor the doctors had examined any of the victims,” he claimed.

He said the area was still covered with three feet snow and moving patients from one place to another was difficult. The KPH official said vaccination was the responsibility of the Aga Khan Health Service. He said that 18 BHUs in the district were working under the KPH and their performance had improved after these were handed over to the KPH.

Dr Fazl Rahim said that medicines had been supplied to the BHUs in remote areas, adding that the doctors and other staff remained on duty all the time. Qeemat Zada, an elder of Khot village, told The News that performance of the RHC had been affected after it was handed over to the Aga Khan Health Service. He claimed that patients were charged Rs120 for the OPD service while deliveries at the RHC cost Rs4,000. Reports The News
