Booni bazaar shuts to protest bridge reconstruction delay

CHITRAL: The traders in Booni pulled down shutters to protest the inordinate delay in the reconstruction of bridge and a road.

The Tehreek Haqooq-e-Awam in Mastuj and the local bar association also supported the strike. The lawyers boycotted courts and gathered at Booni bazaar along with the shopkeepers. Speaking on the occasion, representatives of the traders, including Mohammad Pervez, Mohammad Shafi, Rehmat Salam and others, said the provincial government had failed to reconstruct the damaged bridges, including the one in Booni.

They said the contractor working on Booni bridge built its two pillars and disappeared. The protesters said that Member Provincial Assembly Sardar Hussain had failed to raise the issue at proper forums. “Stop being photographed with PPP leaders in Sindh and come back to the constituency to resolve the issues being faced by the electorate,” said one of the speakers. The protesting traders threatened to hold a sit-in on Mastuj-Chitral Road if the bridge was not reconstructed. (The News)
