Aga Khan University Hospital Reaccredited by Joint Commission International, Reinforcing Commitment to Global Standards in Quality and Patient Care

Karachi: The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has once again been reaccredited by The Joint Commission International (JCI), a recognition that reaffirms its longstanding commitment to excellence in healthcare. This prestigious reaccreditation continues a legacy of quality and safety that began with AKUH's first accreditation in 2006, when it became the first JCI-accredited hospital in Pakistan.

JCI, an independent, not-for-profit organisation, is globally recognised as the gold seal of approval in healthcare. AKUH's unbroken chain of JCI reaccreditations underscores its adherence to world-class standards in patient safety, quality care, and performance.

AKUH and its Outreach Health Network have consistently raised the bar, not just meeting but exceeding the rigorous standards set by JCI. In 2015, AKUH, Karachi, became the first and only academic medical centre in Pakistan to receive JCI accreditation.

"The reaccreditation by JCI reaffirms our commitment to excellence in healthcare," said Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, President and Vice Chancellor of the Aga Khan University. "At the Aga Khan University Hospital, we strive to provide care that meets and exceeds international standards, ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients. We are proud to continue this journey of excellence, and we remain dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare in Pakistan and beyond."

The JCI reaccreditation process, conducted every three years, involves a comprehensive audit of critical hospital operations, including infection prevention and control, quality improvement, patient safety, and staff qualifications. AKUH's success in this rigorous process emphasises its dedication to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to every patient.

Dr Farhat Abbas, CEO, AKU Health Services, Pakistan, added, "Achieving JCI reaccreditation is a testament to our team's relentless dedication. This accolade not only recognises our commitment to the highest standards of patient care but also highlights our ongoing efforts to enhance and innovate in healthcare delivery. We are honoured to be at the forefront of excellence in healthcare in Pakistan."

With the JCI gold seal, patients can trust that AKUH upholds the highest global standards of quality and care, which lead to better treatment outcomes. They can trust that the Hospital puts heavy focus and commitment to patient safety and has put in rigorous protocols to prevent infections, errors, and actions that can risk harm to patients. They can rely on delivery of service that is guided by commitment to continuous monitoring and improvement, ensuring that the care they receive is always aligned to the latest research-backed guidelines and practices. This accreditation serves as a reassurance to all patients, both locally and internationally, that AKUH offers world-class healthcare they can trust.
