Sazgar Engineering Set to Launch ORA-07 Electric Vehicle in Pakistan

Sazgar Engineering Works (SAZEW) is gearing up to introduce the ORA-07 EV, a Completely Built Unit (CBU) electric vehicle, to the Pakistani market in the coming days. The company made this announcement through a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), stating that bookings for the vehicle will commence soon. The ORA-07 is part of Great Wall Motors' (GWM) sub-brand, specializing in electric vehicles, and marks Sazgar's continued venture into the EV market, following its earlier launch of the Haval Jolion Hybrid Electric Vehicle.

Sazgar has been gradually expanding its presence in the automotive sector. In 2022, the company completed manufacturing facilities for Haval SUVs after receiving the government's green-field status for local production in 2021. Sazgar, well-known as Pakistan's largest rickshaw manufacturer, also exports three-wheelers and has introduced other Chinese car brands like BAIC, further diversifying its offerings. The new ORA-07 EV adds to Sazgar's growing portfolio of electric and hybrid vehicles.

The EV market in Pakistan is in its infancy but gaining traction, with companies like BYD also entering the market recently. However, despite the growing interest in solar energy and electric vehicles, the industry faces challenges such as limited charging infrastructure, high power tariffs, and consumer reluctance, which could slow the adoption of new technologies in the country.
