ISLAMABAD - Absence of night landing facility at airports in the far-fetched areas of the country has forced the passengers to land at developed city’s airports especially during the nighttime. Mostly, socio-economic routes including DG Khan, Gilgit, Chitral and others have no night landing facility, which causes enormous difficulty for the passengers who have to land and stay in metropolitans, sources in Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revealed to TheNation.
The sources further said that due to non-availability of night landing facility passengers travelling from Dubai to Dera Ghazi Khan have to arrive at Jinnah Airport (Karachi) and next day they reach their destination. When contacted, General Manager Public Affairs PIA Sultan Hassan said that normally flight from Dubai lands at DG Khan airport in the daytime. He said sometime due to bad weather or for some other reasons, flight lands at Jinnah airport (Karachi). “Once in a while such incident happen,” GM Public Affair said adding all possible arrangements are made for passengers in such cases. He further said that no extra charges are taken from passengers.
It merits mentioning here that PIA runs flights three routes to and from DG khan, which are DGK-ISB, DGK-Karchi and DGK-Dubai. The sources told that Dera Ghazi Khan a major city of Southern Punjab stands at the juncture of all four provinces but still it has been the victim of negligence in terms of civic facilities.
Airport without night landing facility is a nightmare for passenger travelling from Dubai to DG Khan as flights usually arrive at Jinnah airport of DG Khan in the evening and fearing that the passengers have to make arrangements for overnight stay in Karachi.
“It wastes one day of the passenger and since long no arrangements have been made in this regard, “ said a passenger from the area. Those who chant the mantra ‘Come fly with us’ never consider the residents of this area worthy of travelling by their flights, he added.
Other residents of the area complained that due to step-motherly attitude of the government, DG Khan airport is still deprived of night-landing facility and equipment.
