The News - CHITRAL: The police retrieved the land of a citizen from its occupiers in the light of the Supreme Court verdict, in Seenlasht village of Chitral district on Friday.
A dispute over the ownership of the land has been running between Prince Amir Hasanatuddin and 103 families of Seenlasht village for the last 40 years.A month ago, the Supreme Court had decided the case in favour of the prince, asking the civil judge to implement the verdict.
The residents who had occupied the land were not ready to vacate it and there was fear of a clash between police and occupants of the land. However, the police got the land vacated from the villagers forcibly. There were reports that seven persons including two cops sustained injuries in clashes.
Talking to reporters, district coordination officer Rahmatullah Wazir said the land had been retrieved without any untoward incident.He added that efforts were made to provoke police several times, however, the force exercised restraint.
The official said no one was above the law and the verdict of court would be implemented in letter and spirit. Earlier, the representatives of the 103 Seenlasht villagers urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to appoint a judicial commission to probe the land ownership issue. They claimed their undisputed land was also included in the list of disputed land for execution on favour of the influential prince.
