Daily Dawn - PESHAWAR, Awami National Party Chitral leaders have demanded of the government to take practical steps for construction of dams in the district to overcome the power crisis. Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday the ANP Chitral general secretary Iftikhar Jan and others said that Chitral had vast water potential where several powerful power houses could be established to meet the electricity requirements.
He said that Chital was a very backward area which needed special attention on part of the rulers to initiate developmental schemes for uprooting poverty, unemployment and provision of facilities in the field of education, health.
Congratulating the government on its success to rename the province as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Mr Jan claimed that residents of Chitral were also happy over the renaming and had recently held a rally to show their satisfaction over the new name.
With the passage of the 18th amendment, he said the public representatives had played a historical role and the legislation was a slap on the face of the former dictators.
He said that in future no one would dare violate the constitution.
The government of Awami National Party, he said, would take measures for protection of other communities in the province and ensuring development of the backward areas.
Mr Jan said that the people of Chitral were optimistic that the ANP government would take generous steps for the development of energy projects.
