Two micro hydro power projects costing 4.3M and 5.9M inaugurate at Garamchashma

Chitral: Two micro hydro power projects costing 4.3M and 5.9M completed at Garamchashma, Chitral. Kamal Hayat, MD, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) slated the ribbon cutting at the inauguration ceremony.

While speaking to the public at the location he said, “Poverty can only be eradicated through an ongoing struggle and an untiring commitment by publich and private sector as well as the community. You can pursue the struggle through your professional careers as well as the community and volunteer services”.

Each powerhouse would produce100kv electricity benefiting about 500 hundred households. The projects were carried out by Aga Khan Rural Support Programme and funded by Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund.

The local community of Garamchashama actively participated in the projects throughout its completion cycle. The chief guest, Kamal Hayat said that Chitralies are wonderful people and are always enthusiastic to volunteer. This kind of lively sprit would certainly encourage us to bring in more projects to develop the area. He stressed the community to continue the their participation in order to bring a positive change in the quality of life. The chief guest assured the people that PPAF would continue its support in the region.

Alongwith the generous volunteer service in the construction, the people of the region contributed about 1.5 million to the Jothar project from their maintenance fund

The General Manager of AKRSP, Izhar Ali Hunzai was also present on the accasion. Chief Technical Officer of PPAF, Safar Sabri, Regional Program Manager of AKRSP, Engineer Sardar Ayub, Munazir Elahi, GM Media and Communication of PPAF were also present at the occasion. Earlier, the notables of the region presented traditional gifts and organized festive music and dances upon the arrival of the guests.

Bahawuddin, Muhammad Wali and other spoke at the occasion. The speakers thanked the PPAF and AKRSP for their efforts to support the projects. They also assured the funding agencies and support programs that the community will show its readiness for a shared responsibility to improve the quality of life in the regin.
