Federalization of Chitral- Gilgit Road.

The federal Minister for Communications, Dr. Arbab Alamgir has disclosed that the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and KP have requested to the federal government to involve the National Highway Authority of Pakistan to construct the important strategic road between Gilgit and Chitral. dardistan times>>>

The Federal Minister, while talking to the members of National Highway Commission in a meeting convened on Tuesday at Islamabad told that the KP government and the government of Gilgit-Baltistan have requested the NHA to construct the Road between the two districts – Chitral and Gilgit.

“Due to the natural disasters and land sliding, the Gilgit-Baltistan is most of the times landlocked. Same is the situation for Chitral in winter. This alternate road by National Highway Authority would ease that tension and provide alternate routs for the two regions.” The federal Minister said.

The Commission approved the federalization of the Chitral and Gilgit Road. The project will cost some 18 billion Pakistani Rupees for 370km long road. The National Highway Commission has approved an office for NHA in Gilgit-Baltistan due to its mounting needs in the region. The National Highway Commission was told that the National Highway Authority is currently oversees and maintains some 623 kilometre network of Roads in Gilgit-Baltistan
