Monday, February 11, 2013 - Chitral—One man died at Lawari tunnel access road due to severe cold weather and one woman got injured while walking on snow covered slippery road in front of Lawari tunnel. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Lawari tunnel access road due to poor condition of road.
Salahuddin Saleh, local social worker, told this scribe on telephone that thousands of Chitralipassengers left for Peshawar via Lawari tunnel which was opened for traffic after one week but they had to wait there for 24 hours in chilly and severs cold weather.
Lawari tunnel remains closed for 4 days a week and opens only 3 days for 3 hours from 12.30 to 3.30 PM and after that Korean staff allows no vehicle inside the tunnel.
