BANGALORE: Ramya (name changed) was all happy when NagendraHanumanthappa, neighbour and colleague of her mother would make her laugh by cracking jokes and imitating South Indian film heroes.
The love and affection which Ramya missed from her father, who always was in inebriated condition and never looked after the family, found inNagendra and trusted him.
Ramya's mother Jayanti (name changed) was also pleased to see her daughter in happy and she never suspected any amiss.
But all the happiness shattered last week when Ramya complained of giddiness and vomited several times inside her Sriram block residence, Kengeri. Thinking it to be a viral fever, Jayanti took Ramya to a clinic and later to hospital following the clinic doctor advised.
"Doctors revealed the shocking news. My daughter was five month pregnant and I could not believe what I was hearing. But it was true," her mother told.
It all begun around 18 months back when accused Nagendra Hanumantappa, 23, BBMP lorry driver, shifted his residence near victim's house and befriended them. "He was alone as his wife was staying in Pavgada, Tumkur district. Sometimes, I use to share food with him. Along with co workers, I traveled in his lorry for sweeping jobs," she said.
Meanwhile, Ramya and Nagendra became good friends and Nagendra would buy her chocolates, biscuits and some time take her for pani puri near Kengeri railway station.
"Many times, he had dropped my daughter to school; such was his affection. I am shocked to hear the news how he misused my daughters innocence," she said.
