‘Khowar’ language is likely to get national language status soon کہوارایک قومی زبان ہوگی

کہوار زبان کو جلد قومی زبان کا درجہ دیا جائے گا 

انجمن ترقی کہوار اور تعلیم و تحقیق کے لئے مادری زبان کے ادارے (ایم آئی ای آر) کی ایک مشترکہ میٹنگ ان کے چترال میں واقع آفس میں منعقد ہوئی۔ میٹنگ کی صدارت انجمن ترقی کھوار کے مرکزی صدر شہزادہ تنویر الملک کر رہے تھے۔ میٹنگ نے قومی اسمبلی کی اسٹینڈنگ کمیٹی برائے انفارمیشن ، براڈکاسٹنگ اور قومی ورثہ کی جانب سے کھوار زبان کو ان زبانوں کے صف میں شامل کرنے کے لئے جن کوجلد قومی زبانوں کا درجہ دیئے جانے کا امکان ہے، بے حد سرا ہا ہے۔  

Chitral: A joint meeting of Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Khowar and Mothertongue Institute for Education and Research (MIER) was held here at MIER Office Chitral.

The meeting was chairned by Shahzada Tanvir-ul-Mulk, the central president of Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Khowar.

The joint meeting hailed the encouraging initiative taken by the National

Assembly‘s Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage to include Khowar among the languages which are likely to be granted the status of National Languages.

The participants of the meeting highly appreciated the initiative of the Commiitee and the members of Forum for Language Initiatives (FLI) for their role to include Khowar among such languages. They said ‘Khowar has a centuries long history and heritage, which apart from being the lingua franca of Chitral, is also spoken in District Ghizer (Gilgit Baltistan) and Kalam Valley (Swat).’ Moreover there is a sizable population of Khowar speakers in downcountry cities, like Peshawar, Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Thus the approximate population of Khowar speakers is 8 lakh.

The participants included Dr. Inayat Ullah Faizi, Yousuf Shahzad, Maula Nigah Nigah, Muhammad Irfan Irfan, Farid Ahmad Raza, president MIER, Zahoor ul Haq Danish and Atta Hussain Athar.

The speakers especially appreciated the efforts of Fakhruddin Akhunzada, Director FLI, who represented Khowar and other minor languages in the mentioned meeting of the Standing Committee.

It is to be noted that the Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and Heritage in the said meeting unanimomusly passed a resolution whereby it has been recommended that the following languages be granted the status of National Languages:

Balochi, Balti, Broshaski, Brahui, Hindko, Khowar, Kashimiri, Pahari, Pashto, Punjabi, Saraiki, Shina and Sindhi. Times of Chitral Monitoring Desk
