ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Communications expressed concern over delay in construction of a flyover at railway crossing on Nowshera-Chitral Highway (N-45) at Takht-i-Bahi.
The committee headed by Senator Daud Achakzai, its chairman visited the site of proposed Takht-i-Bahi bridge after receiving complaints from the masses and later took a briefing from National Highway Authority (NHA) and held an open meeting in the presence of local people along with legislators from the area.
Senator Zahid Khan said that Takht-i-Bahi flyover was a gateway to 11 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and over 70,00,000 people would benefit from its completion. He said that due to delay in its timely completion,its cost of Rs 485 million project would further escalate.
Kamil Ali Agha criticized the change in design and unusual delay in its completion. The committee was informed by the NHA officials that the project was delayed as encroachments on railway land and bridge from WAPDA, PTCL and Sui Gas departments had resulted in delay.
Daud achakzai said that it was a public welfare project and delay in its completion has caused problems to the masses and ruined businesses. He said that the road was in dilapidated condition and NHA was blaming other departments which was regrettable. He said that revised design of the bridge would be finalized after consultations with the public representatives of the areas. The NHA officials failed to satisfy the committee members in their briefing over unusual delay in construction.
The meeting was attended by Senators Kamil Ali Agha, Mohsin Leghari, Nisar Khan and Zahid Khan. APP
