Agribusiness Project Launched in Ayun to Reduce Poverty
Farmers of Ayun to Benefit from Modern Agribusiness Initiative
A new project has been launched in Ayun village of Lower Chitral district to reduce poverty by promoting agribusiness. The initiative is part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Economic Development Project (KP-RETP), under which a formal farmer organization has been established.
Regional coordinator Shafiq Iqbal stated that the project offers countless opportunities to transform the lives of those engaged in agriculture. He emphasized that by adopting government procedures, Ayun's farmers would gain awareness of modern farming techniques that could bring significant improvements.
Supported financially by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the provincial government aims to strengthen agriculture and ensure that a large portion of agricultural income directly benefits farmers. Project consultants Azhar Iqbal and Abdul Hameed explained that Ayun was chosen due to its fertile land and soil suitability for diverse fruits and cereal crops. They assured that all necessary resources would be provided to boost production and income. Former union council chairman Muhkamuddin praised the government's efforts, saying farmers would fully utilize the village's agribusiness potential with the project's support.
